The Blood of Dawnwalker Controls for PC and Console
Typical third-person mapping. Confirm every bind in Settings → Controls before the first ruin.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player third-person action RPG on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam, Xbox on PC, GOG). Keyboard, mouse, DualSense, and Xbox pads are all first-class. This page lists a typical third-person mapping so you know which actions exist. It is not an official reprint of Rebel Wolves’ final chart. Open Settings → Controls on your device, rebind anything that fights your muscle memory, and only then walk into Deep Down. Pair this page with the combat guide so a directional parry is a thumb-stick skill, not a mystery prompt.
Directional combat is the reason binds matter. Attack and block are not binary. You add a direction — mouse push or left stick — as you press the button. Omni-attack and omni-block assists will pick the line for you if you turn them on. Four difficulty levels exist if the exam is too loud. None of those options help if bite and interact share a panic press on night one.
Typical keyboard and mouse
PC players should expect a standard action-RPG cluster. Treat the table as a checklist of actions to find in the menu, not as a promise that W is officially “forward” in every region.
| Action | Typical keyboard / mouse | What to confirm in Settings |
|---|---|---|
| Move | WASD | — |
| Look / direction of swing or parry | Mouse | Invert Y, sensitivity, whether mouse adds combat direction |
| Attack | Left mouse | Direction comes from mouse or a separate key |
| Block / parry | Right mouse | Perfect parry window; omni-block toggle |
| Dodge | Space or Left Alt | Stamina cost; whether hold is sprint |
| Sprint | Left Shift | Daytime only in spirit — night wants Shadowstep |
| Interact / take | E | Must not share a panic press with bite |
| Ability slots (day hexes / gold physicals) | 1–4 or Q, F, R, C | Four day slots, four night slots in preview builds |
| Shadowstep (night) | Dedicated night bind (often F or a mouse side button) | Landing-marker preview |
| Voracious Bite (night) | Dedicated night bind | Separate from Interact |
| Piercing Shriek / other night actives | Remaining slot keys | — |
| Lock-on / camera swap | Middle mouse or Z | Close lock-on versus farther camera |
| Map | M or Tab | Time does not tick while the map is open |
| Pause / journal | Esc | Hourglass costs show before you accept a job |
Rebind bite away from interact. Rebind Shadowstep away from dodge if you keep blinking into walls. If you play with a mouse, spend two minutes in a quiet yard swinging up, down, left, and right until the camera and the sword agree.
Typical gamepad (DualSense and Xbox)
Console and PC pads follow the usual third-person cluster. Face-button labels below are Xbox first, PlayStation in parentheses. Confirm icons in-game; Rebel Wolves can still shuffle a shoulder.
| Action | Typical Xbox / DualSense | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Left stick | Also the combat-direction stick |
| Look | Right stick | Camera; not the parry line |
| Attack | RT / R2 (right trigger) | Add left-stick direction as you press |
| Block / parry | LT / L2 (left trigger) | Match the yellow arrow with the left stick |
| Dodge | B / Circle | Stamina; do not confuse with bite |
| Interact | X / Square | Context prompts on NPCs, doors, corpses |
| Ability slots | Y / Triangle, X / Square hold, D-pad, or bumper + face | Preview UI showed a dedicated ability panel |
| Shadowstep | Bumper + face or a clicked stick (varies) | Watch for the yellow landing circle |
| Voracious Bite | A labeled night face button | Keep it off Interact |
| Map | View / Touch pad | Free on the clock |
| Lock-on / camera | Right stick click or LB / L1 | Close versus far |
Left stick does double duty: walk and combat direction. That is the skill. Push into the arrow as you tap block. Push into the gap as you tap attack. Omni-block will cover you if the stick and the arrow disagree. Omni-attack will pick a line if you refuse to steer. Neither assist teaches mixed-line Swordmastery bonuses — turn them off when you care about Precision-style perks. Details sit in the combat guide and on the Swordmastery page.
Day binds versus night binds
Preview builds used four day quick slots and four night quick slots. Hexes such as Ravenous Flock, Burning Blood, Mercurial Fervour, Compel Soul, Life Lock, Soul Reaping, and Astral Communion only exist in daylight. Gold physicals (Acrid Dust / Dirty Trick, Artery Attack) sit on the day bar even though they are not “magic.” Night slots want Voracious Bite, Piercing Shriek, Blood Surge, Shadow Storm, and traversal (Shadowstep, Planeshift, Death from Above).
Do not put Mercurial Fervour on a night slot. The hex is inert after dusk because Anca’s scars heal. Do not put bite on a day slot. You will reach for a heal that is not there. Day and night is the kit page; this page’s rule is: the same face button should mean “opener” in both kits, even if the opener is Dust at noon and Shriek at midnight.
Settings worth opening before Laslea
- Omni-attack / omni-block — on for the prologue, off once arrows are readable.
- Camera — close lock-on for duels, farther for streets. The combat guide explains why.
- Difficulty — four levels. The calendar does not care.
- Invert look, sensitivity, dead zones — directional combat punishes a sloppy stick more than a shooter does.
- Subtitles and VO — full voice in English, Polish, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Text also covers Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Czech, and Hungarian. No Russian.
- Performance — day-one 60 FPS patch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, not Series S. PC upscalers (DLSS, FSR, XeSS) live under system requirements.
Habits that save a week
Open the map with the bind you actually remember. Time does not tick on parchment. Mark a shrine before a downtown fight so a death is not a hike. Hold interact on corpses in daylight if you intend to Compel Soul — that hex is a day tool. At night, check hunger before you check the quest log; feeding can delete a giver because bite won a panic press.
Getting Started is when you rebind. How to Play is the loop those binds serve. The ability tier list, Witchcraft, Vampirism, and the build planner decide which four buttons are worth a shrine segment. This page only asks that those four buttons are not also “talk.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Are these the official keybinds?
No. They are a typical third-person layout so you know which actions exist. Confirm and rebind in Settings → Controls. Rebel Wolves can still shuffle shoulders between patches.
How do I parry on a pad?
Hold or tap block (typically LT / L2) while pushing the left stick toward the yellow arrow. A timed match is a parry. Omni-block will pick the line if you turn it on. See the combat guide.
Can I rebind Shadowstep and bite?
PC remapping is expected; console remapping should be in the same Controls menu. Put bite far from interact so feeding is a choice.
Do day and night use the same ability buttons?
Preview builds used four day slots and four night slots. Hexes die at dusk; vampire powers die at dawn. Put an opener on the same muscle in both kits. Day and night lists the kits.
What camera should I use?
Close lock-on for duels, farther for streets. Swap when a second attacker enters. The option is in Settings next to the omni assists.
Does opening the map spend time?
No. The time system only charges hourglass quests, story beats, and shrine levels. Stare at the map as long as you need.
