The Blood of Dawnwalker Swordmastery skill tree

Twenty-two perks and seven abilities that still work after dusk, when hexes die.

Swordmastery

Swordmastery is the only tree that does not care whether the sun is up. Witchcraft is day. Vampirism is night. Steel sits in both bars, which is why a first shrine that buys Acrid Dust or Charge is rarely a mistake. When rune scars heal and hexes shut off, Coen is still a man with a blade. When hunger is loud and you refuse to bite a villager, he is still a man with a blade.

The tree holds about 22 perks and seven abilities. Weapons in the current kit are short swords, long swords, and great swords — not a full armory of axes and bows. Directional offense and defense sit in the Kingdom Come family: you pick a side, you parry a side, you earn gold charges for executions. The combat and controls pages teach the hands. This page teaches which nodes are worth a manual plus XP plus a time segment at a wayside shrine.

You cannot finish this tree and the other two in 30 days. Do not try. Rank the steel against the Builds Hub, then park the winners on the build planner.

Why the sword is the 24-hour tree

Daylight wants hexes. Night wants claws, Shadowstep, and a feeding plan. Both halves still have stamina, still have a lock-on, and still have enemies who will not wait for your favourite clock. Swordmastery is the bridge so a witch-duelist does not become a civilian at dusk, and a claw assassin is not helpless if a fight starts before sundown.

It is also the tree that does not tax health the way hexes and vampire dumps can. Acrid Dust blinds. Charge closes. Artery Attack spends a gold charge you already earned by fighting well. That is the same charge economy as witchcraft, different colour: gold for physical finishers, red for hexes. Vampire powers skip the meter entirely. If you hate watching Coen’s hit points pay for a spell, this is the tree that lets you stay honest.

Manuals for sword ranks sit on soldiers, bandits, and fencers you will meet on the map. Buy or loot the book, then pay the shrine. The hourglass still moves. Pair purchases with the time planner so a “just one more stamina node” does not eat the coronation buffer.

The official Battle of Retribution film is a combat picture, not a UI lecture: bodies, blades, and the kind of crowded melee where a blind and an execution matter more than a travel perk. Use it as tone. Use the tables below as the spend.

Acrid Dust is the control button people waste. Preview notes on the first grade are specific: the blind can last around ten seconds, and it aborts when you hit the target. The correct sequence is throw, step, let them claw at air, then dump Artery or a hex. The wrong sequence is throw-into-light-attack, which turns a ten-second disable into a slap.

Artery Attack is why gold charges exist. Fight well, fill gold, end a life instead of grinding the last third of a health bar. It is S-tier when the pip is full and C-tier if you expect it to start a fight. Night does not steal it from you. That is the whole point of this tree.

Charge keeps great-sword players from living in the loading frame between “I see him” and “I am in range.” It is stamina hungry. Spamming it like a vampire Shadowstep is how you arrive empty. One committed entry, then directional work.

You start with three ability slots. A steel-forward bar that still leaves room for a hex or a bite:

  • Day: Acrid Dust, Artery Attack, Burning Blood (stolen from witchcraft)
  • Night: Acrid Dust, Artery Attack, Voracious Bite (stolen from vampirism)
  • Dust and Artery stay equipped across the swap. That is the 24-hour argument in one loadout.

Perks, weapons, and what not to max

Short swords are fast charge batteries. Long swords are the default language of Vale Sangora. Great swords hurt, and they ask you to Charge or to wait. None of the three is “wrong.” The wrong thing is owning two weapons and no Dust.

Perk priority if you only have two shrine segments in week one:

  1. Whatever rank makes directional parries reliable — without it, you do not earn gold, and Artery is a dead icon.
  2. A stamina rank if you are dropping to a walk in every second exchange.
  3. A weapon-specific node for the blade you actually carry, not the great sword you will “switch to later.”

Skip a second execution if Artery already dumps your gold. Skip travel perks; this tree is not Mercurial Fervour. Skip a capstone ultimate until you know which of the three trees you will keep an ultimate on — preview notes say you only keep one.

Swordmastery is also the polite answer to hunger. Feeding humans is efficient and ugly. Feeding animals is safer and slower. If you starve, Coen can kill an NPC you still needed for a quest. A night spent on Dust, Charge, and a clean parry string is how a Dawnwalker stays fed without turning Laslea into a crime scene.

Pair this page with how to play and getting started so the first wayside shrine is a steel node, a hex node, or a bite — not a cosmetic stance. Then check the Builds Hub if you need the S/A/B/C view of Dust against Piercing Shriek. Dust wins at noon. Shriek wins at midnight. The sword is what you hold in both sentences.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Does Swordmastery work at night?

Yes. It is the only tree that works day and night. Witchcraft shuts off when rune scars heal. Vampirism is night only. Steel is the bridge.

How do I unlock sword nodes?

Find or buy a manual from soldiers, bandits, or fencers, then spend XP and a time segment at a wayside shrine. The calendar will not let you max this tree and the other two.

What is the difference between red charges and gold charges?

Red spends on hexes. Gold spends on physical finishers such as Artery Attack. Both are earned by fighting well. Vampire powers skip the charge meter.

Why does Acrid Dust feel short?

The first grade can hold about ten seconds, but the blind drops when you hit the target. Throw, wait, then commit. Do not throw into an immediate light attack.

Short, long, or great sword?

Short swords battery charges. Long swords are the default. Great swords hit harder and want Charge to enter range. Buy nodes for the blade you are holding this week.

Should a claw assassin still buy sword nodes?

Yes, at least Dust or Charge. Night fights still start in doorways, and dusk does not always wait for your Shadowstep rank. One steel active keeps the bar honest.
