The Blood of Dawnwalker Vampirism skill tree

Claws, bites, and teleports that exist only after dusk — paid in health, hunger, and corruption.

Vampirism

Vampirism is Coen’s night kit. When the sun drops, witchcraft dies with the healing rune scars, claws come out, and this tree is the reason the day and night split is not a coat of paint. You cannot dump Blood Surge at noon. You cannot Shadowstep a cathedral wall at breakfast. Plan the bar as a second character who shares a sword.

Vampire powers skip the charge meter. Hexes want red pips. Executions want gold. Claws, bites, shrieks, and storms tax health or corruption instead. That feels free until it is not: a hungry Dawnwalker who keeps spending hit points without feeding will take the next meal from whoever is closest. Animals are safer. Humans are richer. Starvation can make Coen kill an NPC you still needed.

Unlocking still happens at a wayside shrine for XP and a time segment. Corruption and vampire level gate how far the tree will let you reach; the hourglass still ticks when you confirm. You cannot complete this tree and the other two in 30 days. Rank spends against the Builds Hub and the time planner.

Night lock and the missing charge meter

The night bar is not “witchcraft, but red.” It is a different resource game. Because vampire dumps ignore charges, you can open a fight with Piercing Shriek without first winning a parry contest. The tax lands on the body. If you already spent health on a bad landing, Blood Surge is how you die stylishly.

Swordmastery remains equipped. Keep Acrid Dust or Artery Attack on the night bar so you are not a pure corruption engine. A claw assassin who refuses steel is one stamina break away from a problem the bite cannot solve in a crowd of guards.

Start with three ability slots. Think toward four night slots later. Do not buy a night-only node during a day you still need hexes — the shrine will take the segment, the hex bar will still be empty at noon, and the claw power will sit locked until dusk. The build planner is the checklist that prevents that click.

Feeding, starvation, and who you are allowed to bite

Voracious Bite is S-tier because it is the tree’s engine: damage plus heal plus a feed. Use it on enemies you intend to end, on animals when the valley is watching, and on humans only when you have read the feeding page and accepted the infamy. A stealth bite on an unaware target can start a fight with a full bar instead of a conversation.

If you skip feeding, the game does not politely grey out your powers. Hunger climbs. Coen can snap and kill someone you were supposed to escort, bargain with, or keep alive for allies. That is not an S-tier combo. That is a reload, or a worse story.

Animals refill enough to keep the night moving. Humans refill more and cost more socially. Bosses do not explode from Blood Surge the way nameless soldiers do — they take a huge hit instead — so do not treat a named vrakhiri like a barrel of red paint.

Blood Surge is the clip people remember: bodies burst, neighbors eat splash, bosses refuse the cartoon and simply suffer. It is S in camps and A in a duel if you can afford the tax. Creative-director quotes from IGN First treat it as a toy you build around. The calendar treats it as a shrine segment you might have spent on Bite and Shadowstep first.

Shadowstep is the reason night traversal feels like a second game. Previews show a yellow circle where Coen will land. Use it to enter, to leave, and to cheat cathedral geometry. Buying it at 10:00 in the morning while your day bar still lacks Flock is the classic bad shrine.

Planeshift overlaps Shadowstep enough that week-one budgets should pick one. Wall-walk is the stamina tax for people who want roofs without a teleport. Death from Above is the punchline if you already got high. Wolf form is a travel perk; grade it C for combat and B for crossing the valley when you are tired of streets.

Claw assassin bar and week-one skips

A claw assassin night bar:

  • Night 1: Voracious Bite
  • Night 2: Shadowstep
  • Night 3: Piercing Shriek
  • Later fourth slot: Blood Surge once you can pay health without fainting

Daytime that same build still needs a sword and, if you can afford the manual, one hex. You are a Dawnwalker, not a full vrakhiri. Brencis and his officers do not share that limitation. Coen does.

Skip wolf form until Bite, Shadowstep, and a stun exist. Skip a second ultimate if preview notes still say you keep only one across trees. Skip feeding on named quest-givers. Skip buying this tree at a shrine when the next four segments are daylight conversations in Laslea — witchcraft and steel will actually fire.

Corruption is the long leash. Steam’s skill bulletin is clear that deeper corruption unlocks more vampiric power and that most of those powers demand a sacrifice. You are not filling a mana globe. You are deciding how much of Coen you are willing to spend so a family in Greifberg lives.

For the S/A/B/C view of Bite against Ravenous Flock, return to the Builds Hub. They do not compete. They never share a clock. The only fight they have is the shrine queue, and the time system is the referee.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I use vampirism during the day?

No. The tree is night only. Daylight returns Coen to a human with witchcraft and steel. Plan a second bar instead of hoping a bite will work at noon.

Do vampire powers spend charges?

No. They skip the charge meter and cost health or corruption. Red charges stay on hexes. Gold charges stay on executions such as Artery Attack.

What happens if Coen starves?

Hunger climbs and he may kill an NPC to feed. Animals are the safer refill. Humans are richer and uglier. Read the feeding guide before you test this on a quest-giver.

Does Blood Surge explode bosses?

Non-bosses explode. Bosses take a huge amount of damage instead. Do not open a named fight with it if Coen is already missing a health bar.

Shadowstep or Planeshift first?

Shadowstep. It is the combat teleport and the cathedral tool. Planeshift overlaps enough that a week-one shrine should not buy both.

How do I unlock vampire nodes?

Raise the corruption / vampire gate the node asks for, then spend XP and a time segment at a wayside shrine. The 30-day calendar will not fund every rank.
