The Blood of Dawnwalker Ability ranks for a 30-day kit

S through C for hexes, steel, and claws — scored by clock, charges, and shrine tax.

Builds Hub

This is not a 500-hour ranked ladder. The Blood of Dawnwalker is an upcoming single-player RPG, scheduled for 3 September 2026, and nobody has a settled meta. The grades on this hub are a launch-week reading of official skill kits, IGN First combat notes, Steam skill bulletins, and critic previews. Use them to decide which shrine segment is worth spending, not to argue about a patch that has not shipped.

S means buy this before you wander. A means strong in its half of the clock. B means good if you already paid the manual. C means pretty, expensive, or locked to the wrong sun. Read the caveats; a night-only S pick is a wasted node if the next four segments are daylight errands.

Open the child pages when a row is not enough: Witchcraft (day hexes), Swordmastery (day and night steel), and Vampirism (night claws). Slot the winners on the build planner. Pay for them on the time planner.

How the grades are scored

Every node is judged on four axes the calendar actually cares about.

  1. Clock gate. Witchcraft is day only. Vampirism is night only. Swordmastery is the only tree that follows Coen through both halves. The day and night loop swaps the bar; it does not merge it.
  2. Resource. Hexes and executions spend charges you earn by fighting well — red for witchcraft, gold for physical finishers. Vampire powers skip the charge meter and tax health or corruption instead. There is no mana bar. The combat guide is the loop; this page is the shopping list.
  3. Time tax. Finding or buying a manual is not enough. You still spend XP and a time segment at a wayside shrine. You cannot finish every tree in 30 days. See the time system if that sentence is new.
  4. Problem it solves. A hex that retriggers on damage is worth more than a travel perk if your first week is crowded fights. A wall-walk is worth more than a dueling node if the map is the bottleneck.

You start with three ability slots. Later you can think in a four-day / four-night bar. Do not buy a night-only node on a morning you still need hexes.

Ravenous FlockWitchcraftDayAOE birds retrigger whenever the marked target takes damageNeeds a DoT or a busy sword to proc; empty in a duel if you dump it and stand still
Artery AttackSwordmasteryDay and nightGold-charge execution that ends a wounded enemy instead of a long stamina tradeUseless until you have gold charges — it is a dump, not an opener

C tier (for now)

PickWhy it is C this week
Late-tree ultimatesPreview notes say you can only keep one ultimate perk. Spending a segment on a capstone you might discard is a tax the coronation does not refund.
Wolf formFast night travel is nice; Shadowstep plus a sprint is not a fight winner.
Night-only node bought at noonIf the next four segments are daylight errands, a claw power sits in a bar you cannot open.
Duplicate crowd controlIf you already have Dust and Shriek, a third stun is a manual you could have sold.

These C grades will move after launch-week patches. They are warnings about time, not moral judgments about fantasy.

What to buy first

A practical first-week package, not a completionist tree:

  • Witch-duelist (day): Burning Blood, Ravenous Flock, Acrid Dust. Details live on the witchcraft page and the build planner.
  • Claw assassin (night): Voracious Bite, Shadowstep, Piercing Shriek. See the vampirism page.
  • Balanced Dawnwalker: one hex, one gold execution, one bite, one teleport. Swordmastery is the glue.

Anca taught Coen the hexes. Sword manuals sit on soldiers, bandits, and fencers. Vampire nodes lean on hunger and corruption, but they still cost XP and a shrine segment. Pair any of this with feeding, how to play, and the getting started checklist so you do not spend day 3 in a cell.

If a row on this page disagrees with a later patch note, believe the patch. This hub exists to stop you from treating three trees as a museum you can finish before Brencis crowns himself.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How can you rank abilities before a long meta exists?

We cannot. These grades are a launch-week reading of official kits, preview combat, and reviews — not a 500-hour ladder. Revisit the child pages after patches move numbers.

Can Coen finish Witchcraft, Swordmastery, and Vampirism in 30 days?

No. Each node can cost a manual (for hexes and steel), XP, and a time segment at a wayside shrine. The calendar will not fund a completionist tree.

Why is Compel Soul only B if it solves quests?

This hub ranks fight value. Compel Soul is a daytime investigation tool. It is A for haunted leads and B for a duel. Do not spend your first shrine on it if you still lack a hex that kills.

Do vampire powers use the same charges as hexes?

No. Hexes (red) and executions (gold) spend charges you earn by fighting well. Vampire powers skip that meter and tax health or corruption. You start with three ability slots.

Should the first shrine go into Swordmastery?

Usually yes, because steel works day and night. A single Acrid Dust or Charge node still functions after dusk when rune scars heal and hexes shut off.

Can I use an S-tier hex and an S-tier bite in the same fight?

Not in the same clock half. Day opens witchcraft. Night opens vampirism. Swordmastery is the bridge. Plan the bar on the build planner, not in the pause menu mid-brawl.
