The Blood of Dawnwalker 60 FPS, three console modes, PC caveats

The day-one patch adds Performance. Review builds shipped without it. Series S is still 30.

Performance and Day-One Patch

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s launch patch is not a rumour. Rebel Wolves reversed an earlier “no 60 FPS on consoles” briefing after player backlash in late August 2026 and confirmed a Performance mode targeting 60 FPS for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on day one. Xbox Series S is excluded and stays on a 30 FPS target. This page is the mode sheet and the honesty file from review-build notes. For GPU rows, use system requirements. For when the patch actually lands with your copy, use the release unlock table.

Gold in mid-July did not cancel a day-one patch. Gold meant the campaign was finished enough to manufacture. The patch is how 60 FPS arrives, and how a list of known review-build bugs is supposed to shrink.

Console modes after the day-one patch

ModeTargetWho gets it
Performance60 FPSPS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X
Balanced40 FPS (needs a 120 Hz display)PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X
Quality30 FPSPS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X
Series S30 FPS onlyXbox Series S — no Performance, no Balanced

PS5 Pro also keeps extra visual enhancements on top of those frame targets. Rebel Wolves are still calling 60 FPS a target, not a locked guarantee. Push Square’s PS5 Pro review of the pre-patch build found Quality and Balanced essentially solid except in Svartrau crowds. Base PS5 dropped more often in the same city. Expect the Performance mode to be the one you actually want on a standard PS5, and expect Svartrau to be the stress test even after the patch.

Review copies did not include Performance. Critics played Quality (30) and Balanced (40). That is why a 31 August review that mentions hitching is not automatically a 3 September report. GameSpot’s Phil Hornshaw (about 42 hours on PS5) still told readers to save often: jank, camera fights, and the occasional enemy clipping through a floor. IGN called those issues minor and uncommon, with no hard crash in that playthrough. Both can be true. Apply the patch anyway.

What the patch is also for

Spanish press (HardZone) published a known-issues list the studio attached to review code: specific mission bugs, camera trouble in combat, interface glitches, popping, odd NPC behaviour. Rebel Wolves framed the day-one update as the place those land. Do not treat a complete disc as a reason to skip the download. Console plastic is playable without a mandatory extra pack; the 60 FPS mode and the bug list still live on the patch.

PlayStation reviews also flagged no DualSense haptics and no adaptive triggers. That is a design omission, not a patch note. A day-one update will not suddenly make the PS5 pad rumble like Returnal. If that feature is a buy/skip for you, skip on that basis now.

PC: the August spec sheet versus review-build cities

The final August 2026 PC list assumes DLSS, FSR, or XeSS at Balanced. Minimum is a GTX 1060 / RX 580 class card at 1080p30 Low. Recommended 1440p60 High sits on an RTX 4060 / RX 7600 XT / Arc B580. 4K60 Ultra with upscaling lists an RTX 4070 Ti or RX 9070 — not the April native-4K RTX 5090 row. Full table: system requirements.

Destructoid’s PC review is the useful dissenting datapoint: a 9070 XT at 1440p native Ultra held 80–90 FPS in empty country and dropped into the 30s in Svartrau. That is the same city Push Square flagged on console. If your “can I run this” test is a forest screenshot, you have not tested the game. Cap the frame rate, keep the upscaler on Balanced, and do not chase native 4K in the capital.

There is no Denuvo. GOG is DRM-free. Steam app ID is 3751260. GeForce NOW is confirmed at launch if you would rather stream the valley than fight a city frame graph. Xbox Play Anywhere covers console plus Xbox on PC from one purchase.

How to spend 1–3 September

Preload opened 1 September 2026, 48 hours before unlock. Install the game. Let the day-one patch apply when the storefront pushes it — do not launch a pre-patch review-build equivalent on purpose. On console, set Performance if you have PS5, PS5 Pro, or Series X. On Series S, expect 30 FPS and buy accordingly. On PC, turn on DLSS/FSR/XeSS Balanced before you judge the 4060. Then go back to Getting Started so the first Laslea day is not a settings menu.

This is still a single-player Unreal Engine 5 RPG. The hourglass on the time planner does not care whether you are at 40 or 60. It cares whether you spent a segment on a vanity node.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Will consoles run at 60 FPS at launch?

A day-one patch adds a Performance mode targeting 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. Xbox Series S stays at 30 FPS. 60 is a target, not a lock.

What are the other console modes?

Quality targets 30 FPS. Balanced targets 40 FPS on a 120 Hz display. PS5 Pro also gets extra visual enhancements. Series S does not get Balanced or Performance.

Did reviewers play the 60 FPS mode?

No. Review builds shipped with Quality and Balanced only. Critic hitching notes describe that build. Apply the day-one patch before you treat those notes as your launch.

Does the PS5 version use DualSense haptics?

No. Several PlayStation reviews flagged the lack of haptics and adaptive triggers. That is not listed as a day-one patch item.

Where do PC frames actually drop?

Svartrau. Empty country can look fine on a 9070 XT; the capital is the stress test. Use a Balanced upscaler and see the system requirements page for the August sheet.
