The Blood of Dawnwalker PC settings that actually hold 60
Drop Shadow and Foliage. Balanced upscalers. Skip the Deck in towns or stream instead.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player Unreal Engine 5 action RPG. It unlocked 3 September 2026 on PC (Steam app 3751260, GOG, Xbox on PC), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. There is no Denuvo. Cutscenes are capped at 30 FPS. This page is the settings sheet for people who already pass the system requirements row and still hitch in Svartrau. Console mode notes and the day-one patch live on performance. The Steam Deck clip above is why handheld is a skip or a stream at launch, not a preset.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz’s studio shipped DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and experimental frame generation. Shadows, foliage, detail, and light are the expensive group. If you only remember four drops, drop those four. If you only remember one upscaler mode, use Balanced. If you only remember one Deck sentence: not recommended at launch.
Best-settings recipe (PC)
Start from the High or Recommended row, then cut the four taxes. Do not start from Ultra and pray. Destructoid’s PC notes already showed a 9070 XT at 1440p native Ultra holding country frames and falling apart in the capital. Your forest screenshot is not the test. Svartrau is.
| Setting | Launch advice |
|---|---|
| Upscaler | DLSS, FSR, or XeSS at Balanced (the advertised quality). Quality costs frames; Performance looks soft in a directional fight. |
| Frame generation | Experimental. Turn it on only if you already hold about 60 FPS without it. It will not invent a 30-to-60 miracle. Input feel in parries matters more than a fake 120. |
| Shadows | Drop first. UE5 shadow cost is the usual culprit in towns and at dusk. |
| Foliage | Drop second. Laslea Glen and Maragir wealds are leaf-heavy. |
| Detail | Drop third. View distance cosmetics you will not miss in a lock-on duel. |
| Light | Drop fourth. Expensive, and dusk already changes the kit. You do not need the extra bounce for combat. |
| Motion blur | Off. Directional parries and yellow arrows want a stable frame, not a smear. |
| Cutscenes | Locked at 30 FPS. That is a cap, not a bug. Do not chase a 60 FPS story scene. |
| V-Sync / cap | Cap to your hold (60 or 30). Uncapped frame time in Svartrau is how hitching feels worse than a lock. |
Resolution: 1080p if you are on the minimum row (GTX 1060 / RX 580 class, 6 GB VRAM, 16 GB RAM, 60 GB SSD). 1440p if you actually own the recommended card (RTX 4060 / RX 7600 XT / Arc B580). 4K only with a Balanced upscaler and an RTX 4070 Ti / RX 9070 class GPU. Native 4K Ultra is off the August sheet. Full CPU/GPU table: system requirements.
Omni-attack, omni-block, and the four difficulties (Story, Fair, Challenging, Duelist) are not performance settings. They will not raise frames. They will make a 40 FPS duel playable. Use them. Confirm binds on controls after you change the cap, because a new frame rate changes how a parry window feels.
Steam Deck: skip, stream, or accept sub-20 in towns
Steam Deck is not recommended at launch. RPG Site and Deck Wizard both saw sub-20 FPS in towns. The valley’s villages and Svartrau are the same stress test PC hits at Ultra. Low presets and FSR will not turn a handheld into a 60 FPS parry machine on day one. If your only PC is a Deck, stream the game (GeForce NOW is supported at launch) or play on a docked display with expectations in the dirt. The video on this page is a first look, not a promise of a later verified rating.
Do not buy a Deck for this title on a 3 September store page that still shows unverified. Do not treat a forest clip at 30 FPS as town performance. The review wave already flagged Svartrau hitching on fatter hardware. Handheld is that problem with less TGP.
Consoles, while you are in the settings menu
Day-one Performance targets 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. Balanced is 40 on a 120 Hz display. Quality is 30. Xbox Series S stays 30 FPS only — no Performance, no Balanced. 60 is a target, not a lock. Apply the patch; review builds shipped without Performance. No DualSense haptics or adaptive triggers. That will not appear as a PC toggle either. Details: performance and the release unlock table. Editions sit on editions. Storefronts sit on links.
This is still a single-player RPG. Settings will not add a second player. They will not pause the 30-day family clock. They will not make shrine leveling free. Once the graph holds, go back to Getting Started and spend the hourglass on Laslea, not on another foliage slider.
A 10-minute tune, then stop
- Confirm 16 GB RAM, SSD install, DirectX 12. If you fail that, stop. Upscalers will not invent DIMMs.
- Turn on DLSS or FSR or XeSS Balanced.
- Drop Shadows, Foliage, Detail, Light one step each. Test in a town, not a ridge.
- Motion blur off. Cap at 60 if you can hold it, 30 if you cannot.
- Frame gen on only if step 4 already shows ~60.
- If the machine is a Steam Deck, stream or skip towns. Do not spend an evening chasing 40 FPS in Laslea Centre.
- Open the Tools Hub for the time planner and build planner once the frame time is boring.
The hourglass on Coen’s 30-day rescue does not care whether you are at 40 or 60. It cares whether you spent a segment on a vanity node while the graph was still a second hobby. Make the graph boring. Then play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which settings should I drop first on PC?
Shadows, then Foliage, then Detail, then Light. Keep a Balanced DLSS, FSR, or XeSS upscaler. Motion blur off. Full GPU rows sit on system requirements.
Should I turn on experimental frame generation?
Only if you already hold about 60 FPS without it. It is experimental. It will not rescue a 30 FPS town, and it can make directional parries feel worse.
Why are cutscenes 30 FPS?
They are capped at 30. That is shipping behaviour, not a broken vsync. Gameplay can still target 60 on a card that holds it.
Can I play The Blood of Dawnwalker on Steam Deck at launch?
Not recommended. RPG Site and Deck Wizard saw sub-20 FPS in towns. Stream on GeForce NOW or play on a desktop. See the first-look video on this page.
Does Xbox Series S get 60 FPS?
No. Series S stays at 30. Day-one Performance 60 is for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Series X. Notes on the performance page.
Is there Denuvo on PC?
No. Steam, GOG, and Xbox on PC shipped without Denuvo. Install size is 60 GB on an SSD. Check system requirements before you blame a settings menu for an HDD stutter.
